cruise control and brake lights both dead ???
what's weird is the tail lights work so i know its not the bulbs but when you step on the brake pedal the brake lights dont come on. now also the cruise control wont engage. what im thinking is its the brake light switch at the brake pedal. would a bad switch cause the cruise system to think the brake is down and not let it engage? also how do you test the switch to see if its bad?

Other thing - you can buy an X-Type shop manual on CD on ebay fairly cheap. Its a big help. Also - join the Jagtalk, Jaglovers, and Roadfly forums - they're excellent sources of information on these cars. A search of their posts might help you solve your problem if you're out of warranty. Are you sure the brake lights aren't stuck on? The brake light switch controls the cruise.

Re: cruise control and brake lights both dead ???
well the fuse was blown. somewhere along the way someone put a 5a fuse inthe F90 slot which calls for a 15A fuse. And the outside portion of the switch where it holds into the pedal subassembly was broken so i replaced the switch and everything is back to normal
repair #1 and so far this car is relatively easy to work on. I was surprised to see that it didnt come with a sealed maintenance free battery |
