Unhappy Engine noise

When I was going at like 70 on highway, I hit the brake real hard cuz the car in front of me did so. And right after that, my engine started to make weird noise. After 3000rpm, some kinda clicking noise can be heard from the engine. I had 2 different engine mechanics take a look at it, they both said it's from piston or the motor (dont really know what he meant by "motor"). But my friend in auto shop says it's cuz I dont put the premium gas so there is not enough explosion to make the piston move cuz my car has 52000 miles. The mechanic said 1400up to fix it, around 1800 for used motor. But I cant spend money on someting Im not really sure. Need your opinions!

And planning to get Magnaflow muffler #14814. Would this be a good choice for nice deep sound? I dont want high loud noise sound. I was wondering whats different b/w oval type and round, single wall and double wall, straight cut tip and angled cut. So if you could let me know about this too, that would be great.

Thanks for your help!

premium gas is meant to prevent detonation or pre-explosion,

as for your noise, if it is a ticking noise kinda that sounds like its coming from the motor, it is possibly a noisy lifter, there is a quick fix to that, or if you don't get your oil changed at the dealership w/ a mitsu oil filter, then that is supposed to be another cause of it...something about a dual stage filtering...crap i don't know

mine does the lifter noise thing and it has 18k miles...its been like that for prolly 10k miles and i did have to brake hard...so i don't kno

Re: Re: Re: Engine noise

I get my oil changed at my friends auto shop. Do I need to change at Mitsu dealer? I guess Im gonna ask ppl around here.

Just curious after searching, but why is magnaflow recommanded? I thought Apexi N1 or some other HKS things are pretty good, too.

THanks.

Re: Engine noise

magnaflow is generally pretty cheap compared to other companies and i just buy my oil filters from the dealership now, haven't gotten to change the oil to see if the mitsu oil filter works better yet...its still a theory

I'm having that same clicking noise. It can start when I turn on the car, idling, and is intermittent. A shopmate of mine told me it was one of the valve covers not being spaced properly. He said I need to take off the engine cover and use a feeler gauge to reset the distance. Haven't had the time to do it.

i've got the appropriate amount of oil castrol synthetic, its still pretty much golden/brown, and a mitsu oil filter

i don't think its the oil

of course i have TOB rattle and lifter tick now, so its just plain annoying anyway i look at it

Re: Engine noise

Ok I am an ASE certified mechanic.
The reason ther wanna charge you an arm and a leg is because they dont know whats wrong and have to pull the motor.
As for the lifter hiting the valve cover i doubt thats it. Ive taken off mine to panit it and theres alota room between the cover and lifter at full raise. (not sure on v6 though.)
the oil thing is plausable but only on oil level not how lod it is. Oil filter, Just do it your self and save some money (unless you get it free under warenty) it just anit that hard , as for the filter just get a FRAM the make dual stage filters its there base line model.

Re: Engine noise

People say that FRAM filters suck ass, I use the high mileage FRAM filter with Mobil 1 Full Synth. I have never had a problem with my oil. And to whoever keeps saying low oil makes your car tick...please explain yourself because you have posted it twice in 2 posts and no one seems to agree with you.

i've heard plenty of horror stories. the filter inside of FRAM's are cardboard and they are GLUED in. yes, glued. the glue has been known to come apart. nothing good can come from your oil filter failing.
