Thanks for this complete instruction. The '95 Aurora oil pressure is new on my own car, and I was wondering if anything new has been learned about this oil-add approach to curing the problem. I don't want to stress out an older engine.

Thanks

Re: oil pressure relief valve

Do you have low oil pressure or no oil pressure? The over fill is only for no presure. It is meant to clear a stuck check in the oil pump.
You can try replacing the sending unit with a new OEM unit if your pressure reads low. It's easy (right above the filter) and cheap enough to try.

Re: Re: oil pressure relief valve

Thanks. I have low oil pressure after the engine warms up. The sending unit was changed a year ago due to a leak. Now I am wondering if I got a defective replacement. Any other thoughts?

If you do a search on low oil pressure you will find lots of info on this subject.

Randy,

I have tried to go with the 10 quarts procedure. Same results, no improvement. I also replaced oil pressure sensor. This also did not help. Suggestions anybody?

Re: oil pressure relief valve

Randy,

I have tried "10 quarts" procedure, and still have not resolved the problem. I also changed oil pressure sensor in the meantime, and still no desired results. Suggestions anyone?

Re: oil pressure relief valve

Randy,

I added 10 extra quarts, but no results. This weekend I heard "ding, ding, ding" sound and saw "low oil pressure" message at least 30 times. I was on steep mountain road. Do not know what to do. Will probably bring it to the shop.

I'm having the same problem as well. My oil pressure goes to 0 psi once the engine gets hot and is in gear and idling, like at a stoplight. Performance is fine, never stalls or misses. Replaced sending unit but that didn't help. Am considering trying the extra oil tip.

Re: oil pressure relief valve

WOW! 11 month-old thread. Low oil pressure anyone? Just add a couple extra gallons of oil, that should do it!

With my older Aurora (1995, 150,000 miles) I went to a heavier oil and all pressure problems went away. I don't think the pump needs to be reprimed unless you suffer sustained loss of pressure.

Re: oil pressure relief valve

As we keep saying, the overfill only works for no oil pressure. Not low pressure after warming up. Try synthetic oil it holds viscosity at higher temps.
