Good Race, 1996 TA Vs. 1997 Z28

first time to post here, i apoligize if this gets lengthy.

my buddy came up from out of state this week, brought his 1997 z28, LT1 with k&n filter, tp bypass, flowmaster exhaust, and 6 spd.....

wanted to hook up with my 1996 TA, LT1, bone stock engine, flowmaster exhaust, AUTO!!!!

first race out: cool evening about 50 degrees or so.....lines up on black asphalt........at the time i hadnt read about just leaving the auto in "d" so i was trying to drive it myself, WRONG!!! anyway, take off, my TA kills him off the line, he is smoking the wheels, bouncing the rev limiter etc.....once we get rolling he comes up to my door, 1/4 mile.....no official time or nothing but we were rolling at around 110-115 when we hit the mark......

2nd race out: same conditions, went to a concrete road, he wanted more traction.......next night by the way, i got on this forum and read up on leaving the car in "d".....so i stall it up to 1200 or so, we take off......i can still jump him off the line by like a car or so.......he beats me buy 2' at the stripe!!! good race!!!!

3rd race: concrete again, he tries to leave his traction control on........nope, i smoked him by 4 car lengths or so........

4th race: conctrete again, no traction control.....we leave together, i beat him by a car or so.....he said his clutch was getting warm and wasnt working great, dont know......

good races i think, and i take the wins!!!!! auto is sure boring to race, but man it was running good, hit a nice 2nd gear scratch everytime and was pulling a hard shift to third!!!!

also we couldnt figure out why he pulls so much on me after we get going, he says my car should how 308 gears in the rear and his has 323's??? anyone got any info on that, or know where i can look mine up???

thanks for the time people.....it was fun!!!!!

Re: Good Race, 1996 TA Vs. 1997 Z28

I raced three different six speed 4th gens in my auto 4th gen and won every time. Don't know why. I think that you have 3.23 gears and he has 3.42 gears. I think that's correct though I may be wrong. BTW it takes a very very very very good driver to out shift an automatic. Everyone everwhere will tell you that they can do it, i have proven numerous times that most people can't. Nice racing, just remember to be safe.
