Engine Questions?

I know the 2.5 and the 3.0 are both Ford Duratec engines which for me isnt necessarily a bad thing. Now my question is is the 2.5 the same motor that was used in the SVT Contour and the current generation Cougar? Is the 3.0 the same motor that was used in the Taurus, Sable, 500 and others? If a 2.5X ever suffered an engine failure could you just drop in any duratec engine?

Also how interhcangeable are parts from a 2.5 to a 3.0?

Both of the Jag versions of the Duratec are high compression, have variable valve timing, and multi-plane induction systems. The internals, heads, and block are beefed/massaged to generate the higher power output. The 2.5 makes 192 HP and the 3.0 makes 227. Don't believe any of the other Duratec versions you mention make that kind of power. Don't know how much parts interchange betwwen the 2 engines.

Re: Engine Questions?

well i know the SVT Contour was around 195hp and that was a 2.5 and the KLZE which wasnt a duratec was around 200hp. WHat I want to know mostly is if i got a set of headers for say a contour or a cougar would they workf or this motor?

I doubt if they'll work. Never heard of anyone trying this. The X-Types convertors are built into the exhaust manifolds and you'd have 4 Ox sensors to deal with. Other problem is the Contour/Cougars aren't AWD and have more room and less drivetrain to work around. Have no idea what kind of ECU problems you'd create if you actually got the headers installed. My opinion - the little bit of horses you'd gain won't be worth the expense, agravation, and engineering you'd have to go through.

"The X-Types convertors are built into the exhaust manifolds and you'd have 4 Ox sensors to deal with."

Which is EXACTLY why I want aftermarket headers. This trend toward everyone putting the cat right n the manifold is great for the cat cuz it gets nice and hot and works better but, it's a bear on engine performance. My WRX I had had a cat between the collector and the turbo, a cat right at the back of the turbine and another one about 4" downstream. When I put an open downpipe on that baby not only did it create a whole lot more useable power (which i wouldnt expect to get as much on an na motor) but i went from avg'ing 24-25 at best to around 28 and sometimes if i did all hiwy driving a few tenths under 30. I'm not gonna give up, I'll find someone that either makes them or someone who can make a set. And as far as the O2 sensors that's easy enough to get around with an extra bung on the runner

which brings me to my next question of can someone tell or show me where the O2 sensors are located in this vehicle?

Re: Engine Questions?

00 SVT contour is rated at 200hp and it is very popular to put the SVT head on the 3.0l block from the taurus resulting in 11:1 compression and about 220-230range crank HP.

in FORD terms.....the x-type is relativly a SVT contour using a taurus block (VERY popular modification), i'm not sure about any other changes made....but from a qwuck glance is seems the x-type is a higher quality SVT contour.......with an option for the 3.0l mod already done for you.(yes i now there is more to the jag then that)

Re: Engine Questions?

so could you take a 2.5X and swap out the shortblock with a 3L block?

now would the X-Type have a lot of interchangeability with the SVT contour? not that there were xactly a lot f SVT C's out there but probably of them than X-Type's
