Noise sounds like signals left on??

Ok every once in a while it will sound like ive left my signals on when they arnt even on in my 96 sierra. Its really anoying. Sounds exactly like the signal sound but ever once in a while it will be really fast like something is shorting. Any idea what the hell this is or how i could check it? Its not a serious problem its just a really anoying one. Dunno if it matters but my driver side speaker isnt working either. Hasnt since i bought it (gonna repace soon) but dunno if that could have anything to do with it?

Re: Noise sounds like signals left on??

My daughter had the same problem with her '02 Grand Am. She found the fix on this web site. The problem was in the multi-function switch (turn signal lever, wiper control, high beams). Before you do anything, disconnect the battery. You don't want an air bag in your face. If you can remove this switch, take it apart carefully!! Remove all the grease from this internals and reapply dielectric grease (available at most parts stores for about $1) to the contacts. The old grease becomes contaminated with enough dirt and metal to short out the contacts. Reassemble, again carefully!! TIP: If you need a T-10 torx bit to disassemble the switch, a small hex bit will also work. Sorry I don't have any experience in getting to or removing the switch on your truck but I hope this helps. Re: Noise sounds like signals left on??

Before you go tearing into everything, be sure it's not something simple like the keys or something hanging tapping somethinkg else. Does it make the sound all the time or just when...?

Re: Noise sounds like signals left on??

no its off and on, but seems to stop when i apply pressure the break. But it will start up again shorty after. Its annoying because it always sounds like ive left my turn signal on. Every once in a while it will sound more like something is shorting out, you know that electrical sound.

Re: Noise sounds like signals left on??

Have you gotten out to see if the turn signals are actually flashing?

The switch is a PITA to get out so I'd hold off on that until you absolutely have to. I've pulled mine and it was no fun.
