Water on floor board

I have a 94 Cherokee country that was a theft recovery. I currently am going through the interior and have the carpet out of it. It rained the other night and I found water on my floor board on the passenger side, front floor board. I am trying to source out the leak but am having some troubles finding it. It is not coming from the door seal, so I can check that off the list. I think it is coming from the firewall. Has anyone ever had this problem?

Re: Water on floor board

My '84 leaks in the same place after rain.

Try using a garden hose, of possible and run water on specific areas, one area at a time and look for leaks. This can help isolate the location.

Gwenerally, favourite places to leak are through rust holes (sometimes hidden by windshield trim), around the windshield sealer or through body seams.

Remeber the fresh air vent duct in front of the windsheld may have some gaps that causes a leak, too. You would need to remove the grille to gain access.

Re: Water on floor board

same here, replaced the neoprene seal and it fixed the problem, although I had to repair a small rusted out section at the top corner of the windshield frame, due to rust.

Took me a while but it was the windshield gasket. I sealed it with black silicone gasket sealer. It was "wicking" through the gasket and the glass.

Re: Water on floor board

I have a 1999 Cherokee Sport, 4 door that gets water on the passenger side floor board. I practically ripped the thing apart today. I tried pouring water in various places and couldn't see any water coming in. When it sits outside in the rain, that's when it accumulates most. It seems to be coming from the side where there is a fuse panel near it. I am frustrated severely. 52k miles

Re: Water on floor board

Yeh, mine is a 97 and I had several new windscreens put in but with the same gasket. Leak was in the same place by the fuse box. But the water was "wicking" in from the windshield gasket. I took everthing out to find it, meaning glovebox and a-post cover plus kick panel and carpets and pads, etc. I used my air compessor and a blow gun to blow air throught this area to actually see the water coming through the gasket on the RH corner of the windsceen. Then I injected black silcone sealant in there and it hasn't leaked since. Also laid a bead on the inside under the gasket and above the dash. I did this last winter and it hasn't leaked since.

Thanks everyone. Today is the day that I rip the thing thing apart and try to source this thing out, now that I have some good ideas.

Re: Water on floor board

Mine leaked along the aerial cable through the side panel and also along the hood release cable. Both rubber grommits had pulled through.

Water on floor board

Ya well make sure you check the seals on the door. Mine has a small gap and i had to put a little silicone on it and it worked out great on my 2000 grand cherokee. But if any one knowns anywhere else to look on a 96 jeep cherokee. I have fixed the window taped off the vent and put a new door seal on and nothing is working.
