Passenger low beam out.

Seems like a helpful bunch here!

My 95 Villager passenger headlamp works on high beam but not on low beam. Three bulbs have done the same thing. Driver side works fine.

I suspect the switch, but wouldn't that affect both low lights?

I also tried replacing the high beam relay on the passenger side, but that didn't do anything.

Trying to avoid an expensive trip to the shop if possible. Thanks if anyone has any ideas.

Are you getting power to the low beam on the passenger side? If not, use a wiring diagram to help trace the circuit until you find the fault.

If all is fails you can jump the wires from the drivers side to the passenger side. Just make sure you do this with a used plug from a salvage vehicle to avoid back feed.

Both solutions look beyond my level of expertise. I'll probably have to take it in to the shop and let you know what it was. Thanks very much for the responses.

I have the same problem on '99 (low beam out on just one side -but sometimes comes back for a while before going out again) and after replacing the bulbs and their connectors (which didn't solve the problem), I concluded it is probably the switch that's causing it. I haven't replaced it yet, but if I do I'll post the results. From what I understand, replacing the switch is not hard at all.

B4 you run down to your local shop. Get yourself some electrical contact cleaner. Spray the connection to the bulb and then pull hard on the light switch so it comes out and do the same to it. Then move to the high beam switch and spray it as well. I think you have a dirty contact some place and not a broken wire or part. Do you smoke alot? Do you drive in high dust areas etc. It will cuase these problems.

The van is clean and no one smokes in it. The reason I think the problems is caused by the high beam (which is attached to turn signal) switch is because the light starts flicking at the slightest touch of the switch stalk. How can that switch be replaced? I have the Haynes manual and couldn't find info on how to do it... or maybe I just missed it.

Definitely check to see that you are not getting power out at the connector that plugs on the bulb, before you replace the switch. I had a problem that the low beam on the right side would work intermittantly, and it was the socket where it plugs on the bulb. It was funkied up from the factory. So I went to the junkyard and cut off one from a wrecked villager, and replaced mine. Problem solved!!

I really can't say but I am sure that I will find out since mine is acting up but only on high beam and the lights stay on so its no big deal yet. If I do a replacement or repair I will post it. The haynes manual is not that good with these types of repairs especially in or around any area that contains SRS or AIRBAG parts.

Here's the wiring diagram. Check for voltages at the headlight and make sure you have good grounds.

Any idea where I can buy a couple of those connectors? I aksed all major auto stores and none had them. I suppose the dealer will have them, but I bet they'll charge a lot for them. A recall should've been issued for this defect.

Taking the switch apart and spraying contact cleaner on the contacts seems to have taken care of my problem. It's very easy to pull out and take apart with a small flathead screwdriver. I also cleaned the lightbulb socket, so it's possible that was the culprit. Thanks!

Remove the R/H headlamp relay and check for 12 volts at pin 3 in the relay box itself with the headlamp switch on.

please indicate how you took out the switch. Did you just grab the high/low beam stalk and pull it out? which part did you remove using the flat-head screwdriver?

Mine's a '95, so the switch isn't on the stalk, it's actually beside the instrument panel to the left of the steering wheel. It can be pulled out fairly easy with a bare hand.
