Re: 1990 Beretta Put in gear and it stalls

TCC solenoid. (Torque converter solenoid) When the car gets warm it causes the car to shake and shudder when slowing down, stalls out. Starts up OK but stalls again in any gear until it cools down. It is a pain to replace even though it is a cheap part (in transmission) because in most Berettas and Corsicas it is just plain hard to get to. Test this by unhooking the 4-prong plug going into the transaxle. The car should stop doing this if unhooked. Can drive the car with it unhooked if you want(most do) but you will lose a little gas mileage as your car will run a little more rpm to go. The car will shift OK but it will feel like the overdrive is no longer working. Again, most people leave it alone, but, you can get it fixed for 150-200 bucks at most transmission shops. You might be able to replace it yourself, but I do not think on the 1990 model you can do this easily. If your car is a 3.1 the connector sits underneath the air filter box. Remove the filter housing, filter, and then the base. Should be able to see after that.

Re: 1990 Beretta Put in gear and it stalls

I assume then it IS a 3.1 (cold air intake on a 2.2 would not be likely). I will also assume it is a multi port fuel injection. If so, it should be visable failry close to the area near the throttle body (front of engine) Remove the intake. Look for a round pc of metal with a threaded hole in it. This is where the old filter housing bolted down. Should be right under there...
