Rear clunking continues (and rough idle?)

I posted about my 94 gt having a clunking sound in the rear end. I had new strut mounts put in and it changed the sound for maybe a week and then it came back and almost sounds worse. But with the windows down it sounds up front. And going over bumps sounds terrible on the rear passenger side. I was thinking it would be a motor mount maybe it's hitting something. It doesn't shake when running or anything. After awhile the idle feels slightly rough the car kinda shakes a little. The engine feels like it runs more smooth when i have my foot on the gas with it about 2k rpms. But i was told that there is a possibility that the clunk is a wheel bearing and that it would have been a grinding sound for awhile then just be so worn it would clunk. But there was never a grinding sound then the rear end before this happened. Could i just have bad struts? They are worn and rusted real bad there's like literally a couple holes but the back end of the car is still lifted. Any help?

Re: Rear clunking continues (and rough idle?)

This sounds very much like a strut issue. The strut mounts wear on these cars and will cause a clunking sound when you hit a bump. You may also want to check all bushings especially for the rear sway bar. This should eliminate the issue. As for the rough idle check for a dirty Idle air control motor and a dirty throttle body. Both will cause the idling to be poor. Easy fix just remove and clean with throttle body cleaner.

The guy that replaced my strut mounts said he checked like the sway bar mounts i think and said that was all clear, but the bushings are different i'm assuming. So I'll have him put struts in and see if he'll check the bushings for the sway bar.
