wiring 2 amps

very noobie question here, but am at a loss. I have a mtx 2 channel amp along with an older kenwood single channel mono sub amp. I was trying to hook the rear speakers up to the 2 channel and am unsure of how it should be wired. with only 1 set of rca plugs coming out of the deck, and 2 amps, do you just get a splitter? same question for the remote wire, can you just jump it from one to the other? the deck is a pioneer 2600. Thanks in advance for any help.

Re: wiring 2 amps

you need to put the RCA's into a crossover, and then the output of the crossover into the two amps

Re: wiring 2 amps

thanks. will this then split the signal so that the rear speakers will work properly? the way it is now, I have just bass coming out of the rear speakers along with the sub. might just end up getting a pair of sibs for the 2 channle and a new 4 channel for the speakers I guess. just want this set up to work for now till funds build a tad.
thanks alot for the reply.

Re: wiring 2 amps

OK, u dont need an external crossover if u dont want it, just split the rca input, use a distribution block for the power wire, jump the remote wire and ground them seperately.

Re: wiring 2 amps

okay so an update. I have kinda updated my components a tad. I now have 2 12 subs and a 4300 e series jl 4 channel amp along with a mtx 2 channel amp. front 6.5 rear 6x9 and subs are all infinity.
my question would now be this.
I am currently running 4 guage wire from the battery to fuse block to distribution block. then 4 guage from distribution block to each amp. 150 amp fuse in main battery block and 50 in the distribution block. I am also using 4 guage ground wire. both amps are grounded separately. the remote wire from the head unit is run to the 2 channel and one wire runs out of the 2 channel over to the 4 channel. the rca plug has only one out put on the head unit. should I run to the 4 channel, then to the 2 channel or should the signal be split before running to either amp. also how would the wiring for the speakers and sub be layed out to run properly. the subs are 4 ohm and rated 50-300 rms. I am not sure what all that means as i am fairly uninformed when it comes to these systems. but I am trying to learn. so any and all suggestions are encouraged and appreciated. thanks for the help so far.

Re: wiring 2 amps

Split the signal b4 the amp, then run to each amp seperately. Connect the speakers off the amp normally. I would need to know the power ratings of the amps to tell which subs to hook to what amp, but dont go over the power handling of the subs.

Re: wiring 2 amps

don't worry so much about amp ratings, just adjust the amp to the speaker
