Re: Wheelie

Power wise you need somewhere in the neighborhood of 650+ horse with some excellent traction to get the front end lifted off the ground.

Re: Wheelie

looking at the 502 crate engines I think im in LoVe. and there pretty cheap looking at summit racing they have a custom built 502 pushing 502 horses or go up one more to the 572 wich is pushing 620 welp i better be good this year and hope santa is nice lol.

Re: Wheelie

Same with the 4th Gens. The F-bodys should have for once taken a card from the Mustang and given the base model a 7.5 (like the 4cyl mustang) and a 8.5 + for the V8 model (like the 5.0 stangs 8.8 rear). a 7.5 ring gear is just sad. Those are go-kart gears.

Re: Wheelie

For traction, you would most likely have to tub out the rear to fit monster wide slicks...any old slick stock width probably wont do the job...

Not trying to step on anyone's toes here, but actually.... that's not entirely accurate. Not so much about RWHP as it is HP to weight ratio and(having)the suspension tuned for the application(read: weight transfer).

I'm making less than 500 rwhp in a 3750# car and pulling the wheels.... and setting them down softly. Before, the car wouldn't hook worth a hoot....just blow the tires or bog after 30'. With no other changes other than the addition of QA1 12 ways/drag springs(coil overs in rear)and a wolfe rod end linked drag bar, the car is 60'ing better than ever. (EDIT) It does have all the obligatory suspension junk.... adjustable torque arm(read instant center), LCA's/re-location brackets, SFC's, !front sway bar....

I know folks making 380rwhp totin' the tires(all be it in a 2600lb gutted out tin can). Get the weight off the front end... put an adjustable pre-load rear bar on the car with some decent drag shocks/ springs and you too can amaze your friends

Now.... for what that's worth.... while it's kewl as phuck watching a car drag the bumper through the 60', a killer 60' will always be better achieved by dead hooking and keeping the front end down to a degree.... that's the tricky part

*One more EDIT*: just saw you're running an auto ans at 3k lbs. Plenty light enough to get what your after.... got a decent converter?

Re: Wheelie

No toes to step on here. actually my info wasn't all that accurate just a estimate. Infact it can't even be estimated by horsepower. Cause you could have a 900 horse engine at 15000RPM but if its not making the torque needed the front end would stay glued to the road. The fact is the thread starter to me isn't looking to tub his car out or strip the interior and front end( could be wrong again though) and for a 3500 - 3600 lb car to lift the front end and keep it there for a few secs. You would need a to have a 400CI making somewhere in the neighborhood of 600 - 650 with slicks in the back. Could you get a inch or two on a great hook out of 500 horse sure. I am sure it happens all the time but to pretty much guarantee he is going to be able to get that front off the ground I would say 650.

Re: Wheelie

Oh... ok. my bad-

I'm not tubbed, gutted, or front end stripped.... all I was saying is that if that's what you're after(he asked, so I'm assuming he's fairly serious about getting fairly serious), it doesn't take 600-50 rwhp in a 3000lb car(his weight per his sig.)to do it. That's all. Not saying it happens all the time either.... just on the cars that w/a little suspension work and a sticky tire. It ain't magic

So.... I'll just go back to my nearly 3800lb pig w/UNDER 500 rwhp and pull the wheels.
But I'll pretend it didn't happen

Btw.... if it remotely enters into the equation.... I drive my junk on the street all the time and is no worse for ware. Totally streetable. Wouldn't think twice about a 600 mile road trip-

Sorry if I've assumed or offended

Re: Wheelie

I think either I am not explaining myself correctly or your misreading something cause my post was not intended to come off sarcastic or like I am butt hurt about you disagreeing with me. I believe you if you say you lift the front end up and I am not even saying that I disagree with 500 horsepower its possible he would. I am just estimating what I believe would be needed to assure he would be able to.
