Help!!!!!

88 brougham v8 305 4bbl.

this morning im driving to school and all the sudden it starts dien evrytime i coast or stop at a light.i couldnt even pull into a parking spot because it kept dying.so after school i went to work and about haflway there it does it again so i pull into a parking lot and check for vacuum leaks,split hoses,and anything and evrything that i could think of but i have no clue why it keeps dying all the time and before all this when warm it would idle low and rough at stop lights. the only thing i could see wrong was a small pinch in the fuel line right next to the fuel filter because when i was replacing it,the bolt wouldnt turn so as a result the whole line would twist up but i tried straightening that out as best i could when i replaced the filter.could anybody know whats going on?????fuel pump?carburator??choke???

Dude, if you changed the fuel filter w/only one wrench (you need two), you better hope it doesn't leak.

You didn't say how many miles were on the car, but be sure to check ALL the vacuum hoses/lines anf their connections.

I had a similar problem and it was the carb to manifold gasket. Once replaced and re-torqued after several heat/cool cycles, the problem is gone.

I would change that line that got twisted it might be restricting the fuel.

sorry its got 125K on it and i used 2 wrenches when i was replacing it lol but for some reason the right bolt was turning with the left one.also, what is this upside down L-shaped aluminum lookin tube coming out the left engine block near the back of it and it goes into the breather and has a filter that goes into it from the inside of the breather.becuase that breather filter is VERY dirty and the "L-shaped" thing looks like its got a lot of gunk in it and its loose so it moves around easily.

and where is that carb to manifold gasket located?could i buy one and put it on myself?because im getting my carb rebuilt tomorrow and i can tell them to put it on.

Well, a carb to manifold gasket is pretty self-explanitory, it sits between the carb and the manifold. If you're having a tech rebuild your carb, he will use a new gasket. If you're rebuilding the carb yourself, the kit will have a new gasket. If you need to buy the gasket yourself, it's only a couple dollars at Autozone/CSK/Pep Boys/whoever.

I had that problem on an '83 4bbl. It turned out the idle screw kept adjusting itself over time, and the idle would get so low the car would stall once it was warmed up. Take the bonnett off, it should be on the driver's side. It's been a while, I could be wrong. But that's my guess. Hope it works.

If I understand you correctly, the L-tube from your air cleaner assembly to your valve cover is your feed for your PCV (Positive Crankcase Ventilation) system that pulls all the nasty stuff out of your crankcase (but thats the first time I've heard of the tube being made of aluminium). How it works is air is pulled from that filter and tube by vacuum through your engine to remove things like moisture, unburnt hydrocarbons, acids, and sludge. The vacuum via a valve called the PCV valve in the opposite valve cover sucks all that nasty stuff out of your engine and mixes it with your mixture to be burned. If the filter is dirty, your valve or vacuum lines might be dirty. If that system is plugged, then the stuff that would normally be removed will just sit accummulate in the engine just like old engines before crankcase ventilation.

My advice would be to replace the filter as soon as possible and get the tube connections fixed (or you could do it yourself) because by letting that stay as is your doing long term harm to your engine.

well ya i wasnt exactly meanin it was aluminum lol it just looks like it because its thin and silver haha.well its metal then lol.alright ima goto o-reilly and get a breather filter for that.
