Question 82 suzuki gs550L

I'm new to this part of AF so bare with me. I bought a 82 gs550L last summer for $100. OK condition but i cant get it to start. I have had dirtbikes and minibikes before but nothing like this. So i got a new battery checked all of the connections and still no go. I have looked over all of the stupid stuff like not being in nuetral, sized engine etc. So any body have any ideas or a bike like this? Thanks

Do you get ANY response when you try to start it? If so, what?

Re: 82 suzuki gs550L

Sounds like starter...though I don't know much about whether that bike has a seperate solonoid or if it is one piece with the starter. However, it sounds like the starter is drawing the power (dimming lights), but not actually turning the starter over. Internal issues...

Re: 82 suzuki gs550L

if you can clutch start it then you can elimate most causes.

comes down to start switch or starter/solenoid. time to get a multimeter and see whats got power and what hasn't

yup yup, when dealing with electrical problems a multimeter is your best friend. It makes it very easy and effecient to diagnose the problem. In this case it sounds like what they said, your solenoid, or your starter.

If you can get somebody to give you a good running push and drop the clutch to start it, then it isnt the solenoid.

Check your fuses?
