Roaring noise on the front end

My van is making a large roaring noise when you drive it. I first suspected brake pads, but replacing them did not help. Any ideas?

Hello

We need more information to help you out. What year? How long have you owned the van?

I take it the noise is only when the van is moving because you thought it was the brake pads. I'm I correct?

Does the noies get louder the faster you go? Does it change when you turn the steering wheel? I'm thinking you may have a bad wheel bearing.

Post back with what you can answer and we'll try to help you out.

Regards

Dan

Re: Roaring noise on the front end

If it is a wheel bearing....they are press fitted......
Requires special tooling to remove.
Some have taken the hub off...and taken it to a dealership / shop to have them change....
Or....can take it in to have done.
This is based upon what I have read on this forum....."knock on wood" have not been down that road with my windstar.

It's a 99 Model Windstar. The noise only occurs when the van is in motion. There is no noticeable noise difference when turning.

If it is the bearing, which I suspect it is, is this going to be a bolt on assembly, or a "press on?"

Thanks,

Re: Roaring noise on the front end

The good news is that this bearing is a bolt on part. The bad news is that makes it very expensive as the only way you can get it is with the housing, hub and ABS sensor. The other good news is that they are the same side to side so if you guess the wrong side, you can switch it and put the original back on the other side. Anyhow, good luck with it!
