700R4 and 200R4 for your PMD engine, or BOP

I have a TH400 under my Pontiac and I love it, but the only problem I see with it is that I allways want to grab another gear. So in the section i'm going to point you in the right direction in to fitting a 700-R4 or a 200-4R in your Pontiac. First off as some of us know, the 700-R4 in a "CHEVY" only bolt pattern, this is only a problem for somone who does not want to spend 60$ on the adaptor found in any SUMMIT book! Also the 700-R4 may not fit well in a F body dew to its wider then TH400 or TH350, so unless you want to pound and or cut your floorboards the 700-R4 may not be good for your F body.

You can also go for a Gear Venders overdrive, but the price is rather high, so unless you got 3 large look below for some good ides.

NOTE: The 700-R4 is based on the TH350
NOTE: The 200-4R is based on the metric TH200
NOTE: The 200-4R will fit A-body and F-body and most have the B-O-P pattern
NOTE: The 700-R4 was upgraded in 1987, so look for a 87 up 700-R4
NOTE: The 200-4R with upgrades will not take high torque engines!
NOTE: The 200-4R also came in NON-OVERDRIVE, mostly in big cars
NOTE: The 200-4R and 700-R4 use a TV cable that will have to be hooked up like a TH350 kickdown cable
NOTE: The 200-4R and 700-R4 will need aftermarket stuff ( see Level 10 below)
NOTE: The 200-4R Gearing is 1st 2.74, 2nd 1.57, 3rd 1.00, 4th .67
NOTE: The 700-R4 Gearing is 1st 3.06, 2nd 1.63, 3rd 1.00, 4th .70

Hollander interchange codes for the 200-4R 1883A Buick, Olds. Pontiac bellhousing bolt pattern
1883B Chevy only bolt pattern
1883C Multi-bolt pattern bellhousing
