95 Windstar hood release cable

It doesn't look like this is a item that gets replaced often judging by the lack of responce you're getting. What happened to yours to warrent replacement?

I wouldn't think it would be too tough....see where it's bolted inside...remove those bolts proceed under the hood where the cable is routed. Take a look at the new one to get clues where the attachment points are.

I would remove the neg battery cable just incase your cable comes incontact with an electrical conection.

I hope this helps out some. You could check out a manual from the liberary.

I did it, but it was about 3 years ago. Mine broke when I attempted to use it when it was -4degrees outside. I cut the end of the old one off in the engine compartment then secured the end of the new one to it (taped it), and pulled it through into the passenger compartment. Then hooked everything up at both end. I'm pretty bad at mechanics so you should be able to do it.

Thanks for the response. I'll try to fish it through like you did...sounds like a good idea. There was a little pebble wedged right where the cable comes out of the housing at the latch end, causing some binding. I guess from pulling too hard on the handle, the cable gave up and broke where it is attached to the handle. I found the pebble and removed it....then got two more pulls on the handle before the cable gave up.

Cable R&R wasn't too bad. I removed screws from the handle mount inside the cab, then removed mount bolts for the latch (under the hood) to get access to the cable. After undoing the cable from the latch, I then removed the dozen or so screws and fasteners holding the plastic liner in the left front wheel-well. This allowed access to the cable for most of its routing and also there's a cable clamp securing the cable away from the shock strut. I cut the old cable just forward of the firewall inside the wheel well, and pulled the broken handle and what was left of the cable through the firewall inside the van. I fed the latch end of the new cable through the firewall from inside the van and taped the end to the old cable that was still in the wheel-well. Then, from the hood latch end of the old cable, I pulled the old cable until the new cable was fed through. It took a few tries and I had to guide the new cable through some tight areas around the headlight, but it was relatively easy. After securing the grommet in the firewall and connecting the cable clamp near the shock strut, I connected the cable to the latch, reinstalled the handle, reinstalled the wheel-well liner, and reinstalled the kick panel. All it took was about an hour and a half. I didn't have to remove the tire, but it would have made the job a little easier.

I know this is wordy, but it may help someone in the future if they do a search and find this....
