D16A1 or ZC?

OK how do you find out if its a ZC or a D16A1 Does it say on the block D16A1 or does it say ZC something?......its said that its from a integra but what if it came from a 1gen crx.....not been swaped...car came from germany 1 owner and then ended up here and died when got hit by a truck from behind....so how do i know what engine do i have?.....it has the polts in side and is a brown top

well i'm no expert on the topic but from what i remember the EDM CRX motor is a step down from the ZC by like 5 or 10 hp. it's not a true ZC as it's an EDM and not a JDM motor but effectively the same thing

I read that if it does not say ZC its not a ZC but it says ZC1-120....... on the block.......best way to know is dyno it
If it not a ZC then why the hell do they write ZC on blocks that are not?
One other thing if i was to use a 89 ZC wireing would it worke with the 86-87 motor? i knoe that the 89 is elect. timing and the 86-87 is vac. timing....could that be a problem?........and would the ECU work with the older engine?

Sounds like you've got a ZC to me! The ZC1 was the first ZC and was produced from '85-'87.

There will be small issues with the swap you have in mind. The distributor bolts are in a different configuration, so if you want to use the EA distributor on your Browntop, you'll need the distributor cam cap from an '88-'89 Integra. This way, at least you'll be able to have the dizzy hanging on by one bolt.

The ECU's are also different, you'll need to use the '88-'89 ECU in order to control the EA dizzy. Because of this the wiring is different and is the biggest headache with this swap (I know because I wired my car for an electronic advance distributor).

This is all assuming that you're starting with a car that is wired for a VA distributor.
