98 Neon rear disc conversion.
Whats up guys. I got a 98 neon with 152,000 on it for 750. Now it is time to upgrade and improve. I wanted to know if the rear discs off a 96 noen will fit and if anyway has done a rear disc conversion either with junkyard parts or a kit?

true it may be a bit heavier but the braking is better. noticeable on the street? probably not. if you get the setup for free and you dont have to spend a lot of money then id go for it. its a lot more trouble free and easier to work on. neons are pretty good about squeaking rear drum brakes due to brake dust and the need for adustment but they work good. otherwise id spend money elsewhere. or you could just leave the car alone and build another car. building on your daily driver isnt a good idea and is very troublesome.

The conversion is not worth the time. In this case the drum brake is more than sufficient for the neon and the Disc brakes are heavier.
Use your time and money for something usefull. Don't put 17" wheels on it, you will take a bad hit in the acceleration and braking area. Even the ACR and R/T neons only came with 14" wheels to save weight. You may be able to get better handling with larger wheels but it will slow you down in acceleration more than it will speed you up in corners. You only have about 110-115hp on the ground, don't waste it in recipricating weight. AutoCross racers that run 14" wheels usually run 205/60 -14 tires. IF you replace the bushings and/or the control arms with racing items, you may be better served with some 15" alloy wheels and 215/50 -15 tires. If you lower your neon you may only be able to fit 205/50's under it. |
