Camaro> to buy or not to buy

my sisters boss and i get along pretty well (mostly through movies and games), and ive always been a car guy. He offered for me to help work on his 79 camaro---> i agreed but we never got to it... well now that he and his girlfriend broke up and he has decided to sell the camaro ( ooh cruel world why must the car be the first to go). and he is offering it to me. he told me to give him an offer... i already own an 03 zx2 and a 73 cougar convertable.... and i harbor no ill will toward gm or dodge (and i am not a ford guy, Im a muscle car guy) so my question is what should i know about the late 70's camaros... i work at a garage and the older techs all tell me to beware the "green heads" because they are prone to cracking. i have no real idea the condition of the car in general. i hear its alot of bondo, and there is a problem with the motor ( coming from a guy that doesnt know the difference between carberated and efi im not surprised). so what do you guys suggest... know... ill take anything and everything from info, pointers, how much i should offer, what i should know. thanks
