Are 4 doors slower than 2 doors?
Hello everyone
I love my honda. ITs a beautiful and an amazing car. But it is 4 doors. I want to sell/swap it for a 2 door coupe. The reason being is that i think that a 4 door is slower than a 2 door. Is this true? Also, is a 2 door smaller in length than a 4 door? I have a 1998 Honda Civic 1.5 VTEC Auto 4 door. I couldnt find any info on this on google. |

Re: Are 4 doors slower than 2 doors?
Yes and no. They both have the same HP and torque ratings, but the 2 doors weigh slightly less. 2262 lbs. for the 2 door, and 2319 for the 4 door. Not really enough weight difference for one to be "faster".
If you still want to get a 2 door, then definatley buy one with a manual trans. (they're usually cheaper too). The manual will be quite a bit faster than an automatic w/ the same engine, and not to mention get better gas mileage. |

Re: Are 4 doors slower than 2 doors?
Hello bluevp
Thanks for answering. I do have another question. Its not releated to the thread but i see no point in opening a new thread. I weigh 265 pounds ( im not fat lol, im just well built coz ive been boxing ) and sometimes im worried that my wheels are simply gonna come off if i go over humps fast or my front bumper is going to touch the ground if im go over humps fast. SO naturally i want to beef up my suspension. So far, this is my understanding. In order to toughen up my suspension, i have to get a new stronger suspension, better springs, get either shocks or air schocks and get a better strut. Would i need to change all of these or just a few? |

Re: Are 4 doors slower than 2 doors?
Your car doesn't have struts, they didn't start putting strut suspensions on civics until 2001.
Now do are you looking for a smooth ride? or are you looking for better handling from your suspension? If you get stiffer springs and shocks, the ride will be A LOT more bumpy, but you're handling will increase significantly. For the most part, a suspension upgrade will lower your car a bit, so this may only add to your problem. If you're afraid about your bumper touching the ground and whatnot, then the best solution is to slow down over humps. |

Re: Are 4 doors slower than 2 doors?
i have around 150lbs + in my trunk of sterio shit. No problems yet.
With a small engine like we have it will be weight responsive. i can tell a 100% diffrence when i an in the car alone with less than a quarter tank of gas and when i have a full tank of gas + a SINGLE passenger or more any way the point is It can be very wieght responcive but it takes about 200lbs + to tell much of a change.

Re: Are 4 doors slower than 2 doors?
The fact that you weigh 250 has nothing to do with your suspension bottoming out. It's designed to hold a 2,600 lb car (more when you hit a bump because the force is higher) To keep good ride quality just get some shocks that are a bit stiffer than OEM, but higher quality. I think KYB GR2 are still fairly soft, but will increase handling a little too.
