Manual Tranny Fluid

Ok, I have my tranny back on after replacing the clutch and I go to Kragen and Auto Zone to look for transmission fluid and all I see are Automatic Tranny Fluids. So I do some research and I find that regular motor oil will work but there's also a manual transmission fluid I can get at the dealer.

Well, I have some 5w30 Mobil 1 Synthetic ready for use. So I just wanted to see what you guys normally do when you fill up your manual tranny. Do you use Honda's tranny fluid or do you just use motor oil? If you use motor oil, what weight works best for you?

Thanks.

Re: Manual Tranny Fluid

I've never heard of using motor oil in the transmission. Since you just changed the clutch I would just get the transmission fluid. I'd rather be safe than sorry. Its not like you would use transmission fluid in your motor so why use motor oil in your transmission.

Re: Manual Tranny Fluid

I changed my transmission fluid on my 5 speed GSR about half a year ago. I used the Honda brand manual transmission fluid that I got from the dealer. It wasn't very expensive and I just wanted to be sure I got exactly what the transmission would need. I know you can use normal motor oil, but I just wanted to get the best for my transmission. There wasn't a huge price difference, so I went with the Honda brand transmission fluid. Supposedly there are things added to the stuff you get from the Honda dealer that are better for your transmission. At least that's what they told me. Just to be safe, I'd go to the dealer and pick up that stuff.

Re: Manual Tranny Fluid

I'd like to think that Honda knows what works well for their parts. The stuff was only like $4 or $5 a quart from the dealer. Which is as much as I pay for Mobil 1 synthetic oil for my engine.

Re: Manual Tranny Fluid

you shouldn't put synthetic in your trans tho...its too thin and could eventually cause slipping

honda trans fluid is made to meet the demands of a stock honda transmission

as for price i don't think they differ that greatly
