New Tahoe and Suburban pics from the L.A. Auto show

I was impressed with the build quality of the new 2007 Tahoe and Suburban compared with the current models while at the L.A. Auto Show last Thursday. Even my brother and dad, whom mostly like older BMWs and Porsches, were impressed.

The new Tahoe and Suburban have larger and more powerful brakes, fully-boxed frames, and better handling.

Outwardly, it looks similar to the old Suburban, but the new full-size truck rides on a reworked, fully boxed frame and features a new coil-over-damper front suspension as well as rack-and-pinion steering for the first time. The sheetmetal is all new, too, and features smoother panel gaps and more aerodynamic styling. The refinements are carried over to the interior, which is of much better quality than previously and is even more spacious. New options include powered second-row seats and a powered liftgate. The Suburban will be available at launch with a 5.3-liter V-8 engine that produces 320 hp and 340 pound-feet of torque. Shortly after launch, a 6.0-liter V-8 will be available, rated at 355 hp. Standard safety equipment includes stability control that has roll-over protection and front-side air bags. Full-length curtain air bags are available. Suburbans are fitted with seventeen-inch wheels and tires, but there are optional rims available up to twenty inches in diameter. When the truck goes on sale late this summer, it will be offered in LS, LT, and LTZ models, in two- and four-wheel-drive guise.

I'm really impressed with the new SUV's, Chevy's really making a statement here. I've also heard that you'll be able to get the new 6.2 in them that is somewhere around 420 hp.

They still need bigger rubber on them.

A new 5.3 liter V-8 has 320 hp and 340 lb-ft of torque. This may be the only engine displacement available for the Tahoe at the launch, but the new Suburban has this engine and a new 6.0 liter V-8 with 360 hp and 380 lb-ft of torque in the three-quarter-ton model.
