window motor or gears shot

hello, does anyone here have any experience with electric windows on a 92 gran marqi? when you push the button the motor does run but the window doesnt move. i see a gear kit listed in some of the auto parts stores web sites. what usually lets go in these. i hope its not the regulator because those are very expensive. any advice is appreciated.

Regulators are very known to die in these cars, mosley the cable breaks.
You can find regulator cheap on Ebay.

i had the same problem with my 92 3 times and yea ebay is the best place to buy a reg. ive bought one on a parts site for 60 dollars and then the next time i bought one i bought it off ebay for like 20 so yea thats totally the way to go. as for repair. you have to take off the door panel and you will see plastec weather shield. take that off without destroying it to reveal your faulty regulator. not drill out the gromits with a titanium bit. it will also be attached to the window so you will have to gently pry off the plastec washers. then remove your reg. it may be easier if you take to window completely out of the door so you can move the reg around a little more. put the new reg in but instead of gromits its easier to just buy some nuts and bolts to hold it in place. then insert the window and put the plastec washers back on. you can tape the weather shielding back on with clear packing tape, then put back your panel and your done. the first ones a little rough but after that its prertty smoothe. tell me how it goes. good luck.

Where do you get the gears? Is this the regulator? I have the same problem with my 93. The only electric windows Ive worked on were Dodges where everything is one unit that must be replaced.

i got them at an autozone store but ive seen them on ebay cheaper. its not the regulator. just the motor and gear box you have to take apart.

The pins are actually called torque pins. In my opinion it is best to get the gear kit as it includes the pins, gear, grease, etc.
