Z32 fuel injector question. Broken plastic ends.
I have a '93 NA that has an injector that tends to plug every few months until I run injector cleaner through it. Finally I decided to get another set of injectors with the rail from a salvage yard. I figured that way, I'll have 5 spares for the next time this happens. They arrived a few days ago, but with a slight problem. On the bottom of each injector there is a brown plastic piece that wraps around the end of each injector where the fuel sprays out. 3 of these plastic pieces, all on the same side of the fuel rail, are cracked, or broken off. I don't know for sure, but it would stand to reason that they are there for a reason, & I assume this will effect the way they work. Does anyone know what their purpose is, & if they are important, like I assume they are? Does anyone know if I can buy just these brown plastic end covers, & what they are called? I assume someone who didn't know about these plastic ends at the salvage yard set them on a hard surface, which cracked/broke these 3 covers. I would rather just fix these if it's necessary & possible, rather than sending these back, since I would like to install this new rail in the next few days. Any input from you Z gods?

Re: Z32 fuel injector question. Broken plastic ends.
Z gods is quite a stretch, more like Z followers.
As for the plastic bits on the end of the injector, I really don't know what exact purpose they serve. After looking over the few broken ones I have sitting around, they don't appear to be used as retainers for pieces inside the plastic, nor does it seem they have too much of an effect on the spray pattern. My first instinct is to say don't use a broken part. Even after studying it a bit more I still think it would be best to refrain from using the cracked ones if you can. Sorry.

I know of a bunch of people that still use 'em... but like broke said... probably not the greatest idea.
