97 merc grand marquis auto climate control

With the key in the on position I hear a loud clicking sound from under the dash. With the engine running the clicking noise is still there and all I get is hot air, all doors and blower are normal. Any Ideas?

The auto climate control has a self diagnostic function. Push the "off" and "floor" buttons at the same time then release a press the automatic button. Test takes about 30 sec.and will display 3#'s in center of display if it detects a fault. If the # is 888 then it found no faults. To exit test press the defrost button. It does sound like the air blend door actuator is the problem.

Please dzus and senior citizen, can you tell me where you found this kind of information? I had no clue this sort of thing could be done and it would be cool to know some more juicy insider secrets like performing a test that Haynes or the manual that came with the car won't tell you. I would appreciate some sources. thanks!!

Factory service manuals are the way to go. Haynes & Chilton's manuals have limited info. You can pick up F/M on E-bay at a reasonable price.
