Angry 1997 Fuel Relay Location

I have gone through every resource I can find and cannot seem to find out the location of a 1997 Ford Taurus Relay location, if any knows I would definitely appreciate if you shared.

Re: 1997 Fuel Relay Location

Are there any specific relays you are looking for? Look to the right side of the battery. There is a little box there that has relays in it. It is easy to find. Large wiring harness under it. About 4 inches ling and 2 inches wide.

The specific relay I am looking for is the Fuel Relay, should to be the only one connected to the fuel pump electrical system according to Chiltons electrical diagrahm. Most of the posts about the location of this have instructed the reader to look under the dash, under the driver bucket seat, or right above the radiator. I however cannot seem to find this, I have already replaced the fuel pump, should have tested the electrical before replacing it.

CONTROL MODULE
On your 1997 FORD TAURUS, the CONTROL MODULE is:

UNDER HOOD, DRIVER SIDE, REAR SIDE OF SHOCK TOWER, MOUNTED ON FIREWALL

Also go to www.fleet.ford.com and click on maintenance tab. Then click on owners manual, enter the information. Go to roadside emergencies and scroll until you find fuses. This gives you all the fuse locations for your vehicle.
By the way, have you checked the fuel cut off switch for being tripped?

Unfortunately it was not the inertia switch to my dismay, also is not a fuse. I do read 12 on a multimeter when tested at the fuse relay. I also have taken off the fuel line going to the engine before the gas filter to make sure that it was not a spark problem.

I will check out the location specified, sounds like the only place I have not checked. Much appreciated.

Re: 1997 Fuel Relay Location

Is the fuel pump relay inside of the control module or is the control module the fuel pump relay? Not really sure how the control module is connected to the fuel system.

Thanks for the help.

Re: 1997 Fuel Relay Location

I believe the 1997 is similar to the 1998. For 1998, the fuel pump relay is located inside the engine compartment fuse/relay box. This box is located on the drivers side (US) of the radiator core support. It appears to be a discrete relay. The pinout for the relay can be viewed at http://www.members.aol.com/Rod241473...f/FP_relay.pdf

You may also find the diagrams at http://www.members.aol.com/Rod241473...Stuff/FP-1.pdf and http://www.members.aol.com/Rod241473...Stuff/FP-2.pdf handy as well.

Thanks, I will take a look at them. Not sure why they make this so trivial to find.

Finally got so pissed off at it that I spent about 3 hours after midnight trying to find it. Turns out the dip wads mounted it on it's own seperate box attached to the firewall, it is viewable if you go underneath the steering wheel and look up towards the firewall. It had some black tape over it from the factory and when I took the cover off, I noticed two relays, not labeled, but I figure one is the PCM and one is the Fuel Relay switch, the red around the relay sockets kind of gave it away.

Anyhow, so I test the relays, seem to work fine... Probably look at the pin-out diagram for it with a multimeter. Think I will save that task for tomorrow.

Re: 1997 Fuel Relay Location

The diagrams are from the service manual for a 1998 Ford Taurus with the 4V engine. They show the relay in a different location from where you found yours and where way2old said you would find it, so you may not want to trust the diagram 100%. That being said, I would expect the relay itself (and mating connector) to be basically the same.

With the relay unplugged, are you able to get to the connector with a volt meter or test light?
