Amateur car theives

Well, my car was semi obducted by an idiot. I have a Mustang, and its a prime target for car theives. I'll tell you the story.

I aws sleeping away when my roomate came in from work and told me my four way flashers were on and she couldn't figure out how to turn them off. Now, I kept my doors unlocked because a) my passenger side doesnt unlock when it does lock and b) its a small town. So, I go down to check it out, and I turn them off. I notice on the floor peices of plastic, which I discover are my steering column cover pieces. Great. I look at my column, and theres a mangled mess. Looks like a dog chewed on it. The lock cylinder is still in the ignition housing, but its absolutely mangled. Top of the cylinder is cleaned right off and you can see right down the key shaft. But the idiot couldnt get it turned, because when he tried to pop the cylinder out, it broke the handle right off, meaning he cant slide the cylinder out. Plus he ripped the contact wire off it, so that insured he couldn't get away with it. But that's not the juicy part. I have over $200 worth of tools in the back seat, plus two new snow tires in the trunk, and change in my cupholder. None of it was even touched. There was a tape converter for a cd player on the passenger seat, and they could have taken that, but they didn't. All they wanted was a joyride. So now, I have my doors locked, and I have to replace my whole column. Thankfully theres a junkyard that sells stuff for extremely cheap, and also the mechanic I took it to is only charging 60 bucks. Canadian currency mind you. So, what I might do for a couple nights is park it in a obvious spot, and hide in the back seat with my bb handgun. And if a punk tries to jack my car again, I'll pump him full of plastic. Untill I get a security system for it.
Anyone else experience this incoveinience?

Might want to invest in a decent paintball gun instead of usng a bb gun, because that will hurt alot more.

Just get a fucking alarm.

hook the cylinder up to the mains electricity... in goes screw driver out goes car thief...in ambulance. i i know it sucks that the other door wont unlock but still, it's the least you could do.

Thanks. As for toksin, at least i already have it. Plus its non lethal. Also, i think the bb gun will do fine as its rates for 245 fps, plus it really hurts. My brother shot me with it from 20 feet away, and it stung. So im pretty sure close range to the temple or eye or something would be fine enough. Thanks for the suggestion about the electricity. I might look into that.

be careful if you do actually hook the car up to the mains, remove all the fuses then you cant bugger the circuitry, and make sure you dont cook yourself. i dont think you'd get dont for it either, i dont know any laws that say you can't hook your car upto the mains electricity, and if somone broke into the car they're at fault.

Same thing happened to me. Lots of the older cars like one of mine ('88 Bonneville) get stolen when a theif really needs a lift.
If they want to knock over a couple of convenience stores, they steal an older car (its easier) do their business then dump the car before the owner knows its gone.

In my case, the theif who stole my car filled the trunk with his stolen merchandise, looking to fence it.

He got scared off and dumped the car, with the stuff inside. The cops found it with a broken window, smashed column and full of stolen stuff.

The cops asked me if I had anything in the trunk, because they were going to keep the stuff there as evidence, before they give it back to me.

I said 'no', so the cops KEPT THE SPARE TIRE JACK, LUG WRENCH AND WHEEL LUGNUT KEY!!!!!!!

Did it not occur to them they came with the car??

On the upsell, they left all the theives' burglary tools inside for me to keep!!

I bought a flashing LED from JC Whitney (3 pack, under $10) and a 12 volt relay from radio shack. (something like $12) The LED gets mounted on the dash like any car alarm and is wired through the relay so my "alarm" comes on only when the car is off. Amateurs will always look for easier targets.

Some of my cars have pager alarms. If someone breaks in it sends a signal through the antennae to a pager so you can run out and catch the a$$hole. Once my co-workers found out about it they had great fun setting it off so they could watch me come running out! Any system is better than nothing in my opinion. The only times I had any break ins is when my car had nothing on it.

Where abouts in Canada are you that you don't really have to worry about locking the doors with tons of stuff in the car?

I'm in Arkansas. My car is always unlocked. I got 2 amps (800W Legacy, 2kW Boss) 2 subs, a scroll saw, a tool kit, cd player, digital camera, etc.

Nothin's ever been touched and the car is always unlocked, cause I'm too lazy to lock it.

No offense, but your not the brightest are you? I don't care how lazy you are, takes two seconds of your time to save you the loss of items and/or your car. I'm not starting beef man lol, I'm just saying, thats a pretty dumb thing to do.

Ummm... you forgot to include your address!

But seriously stuff can happen anywhere. I once lost a stereo system while parked in a church parking lot! It wasn't even that great of a system but the sucky part was how they messed up the dash getting it out.
And yes the doors were not locked. (my dad was driving it)

my stereo got stolen and the dumbass ripped out all the internal coils and such in the pracess making the speaker useless
