Remote Start Jeep GCL

I think something is not right!!! I went to get remote start for my 99 Grand Cheorkee Limited, I was told that in addition to the remote start box I would need some kind of an bypass box, and that I would have to give up one of my keys to be inserted into this box. The total cost would be $320.00. I purchased both parts, and when I went to get it installed the mechanic said that I would also need something else that cost $140.00. After assuring me that this was needed because of the year of my car and all the features (automitic seat positiong and keyless entry) I went with it. When I went to pick my car up he handed me 2 remote starts with keys. I asked how I got 2 keys back, and he said that he had to use something else because of the age of the car. I said then I should get money back for the parts not used and he said that the part he used cost the same as the other parts. I wanted some paper work and he said there really isn't any paper work, only installation instructions for the installer. I guess I need to go back there and have it explained to me better. I'm just wondering if any one else had remote start installed and if what he said is true. This was done on Tuesday and so far everything works fine. The seats move into position and the car starts from a good distant.

Not sure which brand of alarm/remote start you have but I've seen advertisements for remote starts referring to a key box in order to over ride the transponder that's in the GC's key with factory anti theft system.
I had a remote installed in a GM several years back and 1st shop went into a BS about all GMs having transponder keys and the need for an over ride attachment costing i believe around $75 extra. Went to another shop and had it installed for less and it didn't need the extra piece and even if the car had a transponder the override was a $15 relay and would have been free.
Check on the manufacturer's web site they usually have enough information to argue with.

The remote start is a python. I went back to the installer and he printed out a new reciet with the new part number. I feel better now that I have some part numbers. He assured me that I needed all the parts and the reason I needed to get this other piece was to keep all the factory settings the same. That part I'm pretty sure about because of investigating the part numbers. I did come accross a different part that would ellimate the other 2 parts but he said that they do do not work well and people have many problems with them.......I was feeling better until I went to get the reciete to look at what the part # was...This reciet is so messed up...I'm going to have to go back again... I just feel like something is not right.....I just don't know what all these install charges are......and how did I get a key back, I orginally purchased the DEI Python1400XP, and the salse man said in addition to that I would need part DEI 556CW. When I went to the installer he said that in addition to those 2 parts I would also need DEI 457CW..... (now this is getting expensive) but I went with it. When I went to pick up my car I questioned how I got 2 keys back, I thought I was going to loose a key. He said part DEI 556CW was not right that he used part CSA PKUCH. This part was $45 less, I think I should of gotten money back.....he said it all worked out the same... who knows...I have to look for information about the CSA PKUCH......Thank you all for trying to help.....

don't know if this is any costallation but i got my VIPER 791X all options installed(rear defroster, remote start, keyless, dome light supervision, parking light flash) and i got to keep my factory settings(high beams flash and horn when alarm triggered) came to after tax $510.(not including alarm)

Actually, that does make me feel better, Thank You. Does your remote start active your heated seats? Mine dosen't.
