brakes for a 69 lemans
i have a 69 lemans with drum brakes, and a while back received a 1985 pontiac parisienne with disc brakes on the front. i was wondering if anyone might know if it is possible to swap the drum brakes on the lemans with the disc brakes from the parisienne.
thank you kc |

Re: brakes for a 69 lemans
Don't try this swap.
Some years ago, I asked the same question for my '69 GTO. It had discs but I was looking for ways to get cheaper replacement parts. The parts look similar but show up as having different part numbers (ie. ball joints, pads, rotors), and most likely will not fit safely. You can get disc brake conversion kits for your car or install the optional disc brake hardware that was available on your car when new. You would need the steering knuckles, (go for new ball joints) rotors, calipers, pads, master cyl, pressure differential valve and likely new front flex lines. |

Re: brakes for a 69 lemans
KC,
MagicRat is correct. The parts do not interchange. The machine work involved to convert them would be expensive. Master Power (among others) makes a great conversion "kit" for the '69. You might also consider some wrecking ard exploration. Any GM A- or E-body, '69-'72, if equipped with disc brakes, has the parts you need. Those are Chevelle/Malibu, LeMans/Tempest/GTO, Cutlass/442 and Skylark/Gran Sport, as well as Grand Prix and Riviera, with '70-'72 Monte Carlo also on the list. Jim |
