Ongoing threat. Nothing but threat. 24 hours a day. Do you feel threatened yet? You should be! Terrorists are knocking at every door! They're hiding in your trashcans! They're lurking around in the chip and snack aisle of the grocery store! They're hiding in your walls! They come down the chimney at night! They're stalking YOU while you putt around town in the minivan! Be afraid! Don't you want more "security"? What's a little wiretapping and email monitoring on the part of big brother? It's only for your own good -- to protect you from the terrorists and their cells! The arabic couple down the street who always bring hommus to your parties? Possible terrorists -- they need to be monitored. The guy working the local convenient store who celebrates Ramadan? Watch out for him! Calling a loved one who may be serving overseas in either a military or civilian capacity? You don't mind if the government listens in, do you?

The real pisser is you KNOW they'll be using this kind of BS to justify all kinds of stuff for a long time -- as long as they feel there's a legitimate "threat" -- which is apparently always and forever. The Middle East has ALWAYS been a hotbed, and these politicians are more than aware of that, and it's all the justification they feel they need.
