a couple of weeks ago, i noticed that my car (1996 mazda626) wouldn't start after my first attempt, but once i tried it again it started. that happened twice last week on different days. yesterday, i took it to my mechanic to get my break pads replaced because it was making screeching noises. after he finished it all, we tried to start the car but it wouldn't start. after trying for 5-10 minutes it started. i took it to a gas station, filled it up and tried to start it up again.... similarly, after my first attempt it wouldn't start, but after my second, it did.... from there i headed to work. after working for 8 hours, i tried to start my car again, but it wouln't start. i ended up leaving it in the parkling lot. basically, my battery works fine, my security system works fine, my breaks are perfect, i put in a new transmission last month and everything seems to be working properly. the lights come on, my check engine lights come on along with all the different lights that are supposed to come on. however, it just won't start. what is the problem?

I have exactly the same problem, i took it to my mechanic to change something on the right side tire, and everything was ok, but 2 weeks ago it just wont start, there is no noise trying to start, the lights come on, my check engine lights come on along with all the different lights that are supposed to come on. however, it just won't start.
Did you know what was the problem, i really appreciate it if you could hel me out. |

Re: Re: my car won't start
wasted a whole tank of gas on it..
I'd start with the basics first, ( spark plugs, wires) and if still no change, I'd try the igniton coil, and similar items. but wait and see if anyone has better ideas, if they've had this problem previously. It could also be that you have two seperate (but similar) problems. |

before changing wires, Make sure that you are getting spark. If you are, Id let them go for now. (No need to spend more money than you need to). Also, see if there is fuel getting into the engine. Spray some starter fluid in and see if it will start. It may not run, but it will start in fuel is the issue. You can try to disconnect the Neg. battery cable for a while, (Note: I'd recommend holding the brake pedel down for a minute or two after you disconnect the battery.) There might be somthing wrong with the computer and might simply need to reinitialized. WARNING!!!! before clearing your cars computer, you might be able to pull some codes off of it. This will help you in finding out what is wrong. If you clear the computer, the codes will be gone and you'll have a harder time figuring out what is wrong. Good luck, keep us posted!

Re: my car won't start
I have the same problem with my 1999 Mazda 626. Sometimes it starts and sometimes it doesn't. Sometimes I can wait 2 minutes, sometimes 30 minutes and sometimes overnight. I know it's getting spark and fire but the mechanic can't figure out why it's not starting. They said the check engine light doesn't come on to get it hooked up to the tester to see whats wrong with it. They even changed some relays. Please help.
