Re: 2000 cavalier shift knob!!!

I believe there is a metal clip on the side facing the dash, near the bottom of the knob...pull that out, and it should either spin off or just come straight up!

There is a small clip on the front lower part of the shift knob. Remove this with some needlenose pliers before unscrewing the knob.

i just finished changing the shift knob, and all you need to do is cut a little bit of the rubber off of the bottom of the knob, the little clip has to be removed with a presicion flat screwdriver, but make sure u tap it in with a pair of pliers, wiggle it out and there u go!!

Re: 2000 cavalier shift knob!!!

when i replaced my shifter i just bashed the head of the old shifter off with a hammer ;p

after i was done changing the shifter i just clicked the head back into place like nothing happened and hung the whole assembly on my wall, good as new.

Re: 2000 cavalier shift knob!!!

o well idk what any of you did but i went to 2 dealerships and they both said that the 2000 chevy cavalier (that i own) 2.2L (if that makes a difference) (it dosnt) manual shift knob does not come off and in no way is designed to be removed for an aftermarket shift knob....:-/
