Sinister black GTO

Anyone remember this?

I took it apart and used the guts to make a new one that was prepainted black-I may finish up the red one again some day, though I really want to make the GTO Judge widebody showcar at some point too. I wanted to make an '05 so I also took the fascias, exhaust, and hood from one of the purple '05 "drift" cars (the undecorated one) and painted them w/TS black. Added some Blitz BRW rims painted black and am fairly happy w/the result for such a mindless and easy kit to work on while I still tear my hair out on my custom Scaglietti (hood problems neverending-have to start a new one now) and a '74 Porsche IROC car and another GT3 w/some retro touches.

Re: Sinister black GTO

Bitchin'! The Lambo rims were a bit more modern, and the BRWs kinda give it a Mustang look, but despite that, you've made a badass piece of American muscle. The taillights look incredible! Great work.

That's a nice GTO. I love the black rims!

What company makes that kit?

By the "GTO Judge widebody show car" are you referring to this?

If so, that would be a very hot project!

Thanks for the comments; it's a Polar Lights kit that's pretty easy to find in the US and will be reboxed by AMT sometime soon as well. It's a full-detail snap kit. I've gotten one as a freebie an three of them from Hobby Lobby during their 1/2 off sales, a whopping $24 for all four of them

Sorry that it wasn't that '60's GTO If I build one of those it won't be black.

That orange car from Digitor is the one I'm going to build someday. Ever since I saw that concept and had the kit, I've been wanting to build it.

Oh, and the one below stays just like it is-it's the pseudo-drift car that I built to look a bit more like an autocrosser-I've had a lot of fun w/these mindless/simple kits that I haven't had to paint:

I have their Ford GT kit. I also want to know how you make it look so good. Is it as simple as just a couple shots of clearcoats?

Clearcoat?

Nope, all I did was buy one with the best paint...actually most of them have pretty good paint and they buff out well w/some compound. No clearcoat and very little polishing...I also make sure my photo lighting shows off the highlights well. The black hood/fascias that I painted are un-clearcoated Tamiya TS black simply polished out w/Scratch-X. Matched the factory black quite well...though of course the Tamiya black is a bit "blacker" than the Polar Lights prepaint color.
