Installed extra Reverse lights....

.

Last summer, I installed an extra set of reverse lights on the rear of our van. They are 2 x MR-11 20 watt automotive fog lights. Their lens is blue but they shine white light. They are also pointed on a 30 degree angle - to shine down each mirror's view. If wondering, they are tapped into the existing reverse wire (in the spare tire area) and have an inline fuse. When we put our van in "R" gear, its extra rear set of lights come on automatically. For a pictures, surf:

To make it even better....

This spring, I plan to replace the factory reverse bulbs with low wattage drain LED bulbs, then replace the above 2 x 20W lights with 2 x 35 watt auto fog lights. The low wattage LED bulbs would allow more wattage on the factory wiring for the 2 x 35W lights. Thus, having even brighter "R" lights when our van is in "R" gear - without the need to install thicker wiring to the rear of our van.

Hope this info share helps others....

Re: Installed extra Reverse lights....

Spring came early in our house this week.... LOL!!!

I was able to install some upgraded "extra" reverse lights on our Tow Vehicle today. When we put our van in "R", it provides much better rear lighting. With our old van's factory reverse lights, we always had a difficult time backing up at night.

For pictures of today's upgrade, surf:

In the spring, I may install a manual switch under the dash or in the rear cargo area. For a picture of its Phase II wiring, surf: http://ca.pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/j_p...e2.jpg&.src=ph

If you feel your Astro / Safari also needs stronger reverse lights (for your local bush trails and county roads), the above pictures will work for your customization as well....
