99 LTZ brake light short?

Hey guys. Been having a problem with my 99 LTZ 3.8. I've been noticing that more often than not, my tail lights have not been coming on when I steps on the brake pedal. However, I haven't had any such problems with the 3rd brake light. I figured out that the problem actually is somewhere in the steering column. Whenever I wiggle the turn signal stalk around, the brake lights come on and off a lot. So, I'm wondering if anyone else has had a similar problem. Any ideas?
