2003 Sunfire stalls while driving
I have a 2003 Sunfire that dies while driving and usually starts again, once it did not, the car rolled over fine, I could hear the fuel pump run and then stop, there seems to be presure on the line but did not want to start, after hitting the fuel tank with a stick it started up and I drove for about 30Km and it stalled again, the stalling is becoming more frequent and frustrating. Someone said it sounded like the fuel pump is going but I can hear the pump running. Any thoughts?

One other thing I forgot to mention, the first time it happened I had just picked it up from the dealership they had just washed it under the hood and left it soaking wet. As I left it stalled at the intersection and started right back up, 3 blocks later it stalled and I needed it towed back, during their inspection almost 3 hours later they told me it was a pink wire under the hood in a block of wires that was not making good contact, so they replaced the end on the wire and it has been fine for almost one month

Another update... Just letting the car idle in the driveway it stalls, also when I push the gas pedal to the floor it will only rev up to 4000 rpm and then spudders sometimes stalls. Your thoughts appreciated.

Re: 2003 Sunfire stalls while driving
Have you had the timing checked? chain could be stretched and causing issue.
Also may want to see if any engien codes are well if you can get read, |

Another update... I took the car to the stealership today and it left the mechanic stranded on the highway (which makes me feel a little better) they think it might be the fuel sensing unit which is a common problem with sunfires and calivers. I will post a final result when I find out the results as this seems to be the same problem many other folks are having as well from what I read on different threads.

Well I picked up the car this morning, they told me it was again the pink wire and circuit board that had to be replaced under the hood on the firewall, same as before. It is working for now so I won't argue, It does seem strange to me that after banging on the gas tank it started.
I must say however I am rather disappointed in the response received on this thread, maybe I should have asked a less technical quesstion like where is the gas cap? Don't take it personally! |
