93 Grand Marquis Typical Problems
So I was throwing some EGR flow insufficient codes for a year and having the check Engine light on after the engine warmed up. Still, evetyhing ran fine.
Recently, the car started doing something else. When it is cold it starts up fine and if I put it in drive it runs fine at about 5mph. If I tried accelerate it hesitates bad and the car maxes out at about 10mph. Then if I continue to try to accelearate I hear a series of clunks/cracks/snaps (some clicking sound like something opening incrementally) and then the car runs perfectly. I notice after scanning the codes that my EGR codes are much worse--more of them. Insufficient flow in both banks, heated o2 above limit, etc. There were like 5 codes. So... I pulled off the throttle body and elbow and cleaned the EGR port as described. I cleaned the throttle body and Idle Air Intake holes. I tested the EGR by applying vaccuum to it directly and as expected I heard the engine idle get slower and the diaphram in the egr engage and disengage. After all of this half of the codes went away--all the bank one stuff. I am still showing codes for all the bank two stuff. I think the valve that turns the vaccuum to the EGR on and off is bad (the EVR valve???). I know I have good vaccuum going to it, but never feel vacuum coming out of it. When should I feel vacuum coming out of it? How to I check if it is good? I also don't think that this will fix my cold hesitation problem. I think the EGR stuff is more of a nagging coincidence. I will clean the Mass Air Flow sensor today. Do you guys have any other suggestions. I am running out of ideas and patience. |
