93 GC 4.0 sloshing sound under dash

The last week or so, ONLY IN THE AFTERNOON when I crank it to go home from work, I hear a sloshing sound under the center of the dash. When I rev the moter, the sound increases with it. Then after 20 seconds or so, it goes away. That is the only time I hear it -- until the next day, when I crant it to go home.

Is that (please say no) the heater core ??

Please say no.

I hope not, but if so, how much of a pain is it to change ? I've changed one in a 85 or 90 or so Chevy S-10 about 10 years ago when I was a little more bendy, and that was no picnic. And I hear that is one of the easier ones to change.

Check your coolant level first. Could just be low or just have some air in the system. Make sure the coolant tank is at the proper level.

I believe it has the same heater control valve as my '92 Cherokee, so turn the heater control FULL HEAT to make sure the coolant flows through the heater core and gets all the air bubbles out. If you do this for a couple of heat-up & cool-down cycles, the noise may go away.

Take Care,

I've also noticed it's developed a slow leak (drip every 5 seconds) on one of the heater hoses where a radiator flush valve was added. Haven't had a chance to fix it as it is dark when I get home from work.

It's no big deal. Fix the leak, burp the air, ignore the noise...

As long as no leaks, its fine.

it's deffinately air in the system like oljeeptek said. although I had this very same problem when my Heater Core was clogged I could hear the water sloshing aroud when I would rev it up. I just flushed and reverse flushed the heater core and took care of the problem.

I flushed the radiator a few months ago. Was too lazy to do it right - even with the flush connector on my heater hose. I will add it to my to do list for this weekend though. Thanks.

Re: 93 GC 4.0 sloshing sound under dash

try this, get a washing machine hose (to hook the hot and cold water lines to the washer machine) and cut it about 8" from the end, these hoses are just big enough to slide into the heater core hoses, slide the shorter end into the input end of the heater hose and the other hose into the return hose and set it over the side of the fender, hook your garden hose up to the shorter end and turn it on, the water will flush out the heater core, then disconnecter everything again and switch the too hoses to reverse flsuh the heater core, just repeat this a few times.
