Is it possible to use the switch-key from newer models on a 1998 Gti?

Is it possible to use ANY switch-key from newer models on a 1998 Gti? I am talking about the ones with the remote lock/unlock on it to clarify.

newer switchblade remotes have a totally different hey shank style (square, not like normal key with ribs in it)

you would have to switch out the entire ignition switch and rewire the harness for the switch just to have a cool looking switchblade. The remote wouldnt program anyway because its a totally different style of power locks.

Ok, so aside from the key, could the remote locks work from the newer remotes?

you can use the the old style key again there was a "how to" to do this you need to cut your key apart from the plastic and cut it down to match the lenght of the new style key. when you open the key stop it before it opens all the way and look on the side and there is a pin in there. take that pin out and then drill a hole in your key and slide it in,and put the pin back in, you might have to file it down. again not sure but there was a how to look in the forums or google it.
