Question Engine Swap 03 Protege' (race project)

I'm brand new to the forum & need some help.

I have the old 03 MP5 WorldChallenge car without motor or tranny. I know the old 2L motor was making around 300hp, so I'm again looking for something that'll make 300+hp. The car is plumbed & wired for 2L via Motec.

However, I wonder if I'm better off putting a Mazda 6S 3L motor in this car. Will it fit? How difficult to do the swap?

Also wondering since it's a race car and floor boards can be tunneled etc. would it be possible to turn this car into a RWD car using a modern donar? My plan is to do club racing in ASC / NASA / SCCA with it.

Or better yet, give me a realistic idea of what you'd do if you suddenly had a MP5 track car without motor or tranny?

thanks for giving me your

Re: Engine Swap 03 Protege' (race project)

You should get a copy of the rules of the racing club you wish to race with to learn how your car will be classified and what is permitted before doing anything. The clubs you mentioned have vehicle and driver rules. Your car may not be legal for competition with any of the clubs you mentioned.

thanks, yes .. I'm was looking at NASA rules and they allow for lots of variations, SCCA not really the case. First I'm trying to determine what's possible ... I may end up just using the car for track days. Let's face it I'll never earn a living driving so for me this is just a toy to play with. However I thank you for the insight.

Cool issue resolved now a new problem

So after a review of the rules I determined although a wild motor might be fun, it's not allowed. This car needed & I found another WorldChallenge long block. Now I need someone on San Jose area who can install and tune this long block. The car should get tranny internals & Adjustable Slip RX7 Diffs from TriPoint (cars original builder). Anyone know a show or gear head in the Bay Area that they could recommend? I'd like to get it together in time to do testing at Laguna Seca on 21 Jan.

ADDITIONAL NOTE; if anyone in Bay Area is involved in NASA and would like to be fractional owner in a 3car 48ft professional hauler (tractor & trailer with stacker, living area & 25ft closed in Canopy) please contact me. I also may purchase the spare car and rent it for track use.
