I think it's just another one of those designs that in theory works, or is badass, but it doesn't really live up to all that you'd think it would.... kinda like HICAS

Quick question - Do the z31's have this AIV - Mine makes a gurgling every now and then which starts at the K&N Nose cone and sounds like it is followed back to top parts of engine - Really hard to trace down but almost sounds like spark knock at engine and gurgle at air filter - Is this the same?

yeah they do have an aiv... it's not hard to remove provided you have the plugs for it so you don't have a gaping hole in your intake pipe... not sure what that sound would be tho...
