POwer Loss!

I just bought an 04' X here in PA and have since moved to Colorado. Have noticed a severe drop in performance when I get up in elevation.( hard to get to 60 MPH) I have the 6 cyl w/ manuel tranny 4x4. I would like to upgrade to a K&N FIPK and an after market exhaust. Will these help me or do I need to look at getting my computer "reworked" for the higher elevations. Thanks in advance.

Re: POwer Loss!

Neither will make much difference, certainly not anywhere near back to the feel you're used to. There's just not enough oxygen at higher elevation for the engine to get the same power. The only truly effective way to overcome this is forced induction (turbo/supercharging) I'm afraid.

Re: POwer Loss!

Thanks OffroadX. I was afraid that was the deal. I have read the other posts and see that its not an easy thing to convert over to the super charged version. I still have factory warrenty and don't want to void it. Any other tips you could give me about getting better 4x4 capadability would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Re: POwer Loss!

Better 4x4 (off-road) capability has been discussed here extensively, read up on the older discussions please.
