hello, I'm working on a 1995 lhs with the 3.5, I just put in a new driver side cylinder head, got it all put back together and it started just fine ran just fine until it started to over heat again, needed a water pump so back apart it went and in with the new water pump, when I took out the old one the actual pump had melted, it was totally gone, not the metal, but the plastic impeller that actualy pumps the water had melted away and I had to scrape all the melted plastic out of the housing. Anyway I put it all back together and it would not start, did the timing the same way as before, so back apart and do it again, and again, and again, and again. pulled the number one spark plug to check tdc and to see if there was a spark and tdc was fine but no spark then five minutes later spark I did not do anything, I know I'm getting fuel and 50/50 on spark, I've redone the timing 10 times and the same thing every time it cranks but sound like no fire. Not sure but maybee coil or some kind of sensor? want to test coil but not sure how, I'm not the greatest when it comes to electrical, no thought is to small

Maybe the wires on that side got messed up?

If I remember right on my 94 LHS 3.5 the camshaft sensor is mounted in the timing cover to pick up a signal from the drivers side cam gear. The only idea I have would be checking to make sure the sensor was not damaged, loosened or wires not plugged in tightly from all your removing and reassembling. Good luck man, electrical sucks.

Definitely check the cam sensor, it could be bad.

Also, it's an oddity but my son has seen it on a 300M, the tone ring attatched to the drivers side cam gear came off the sprocket and just layed there behind the gear, took him 2 days to find that one and only found it by removing the timing belt covers to verify the cam timing was right.

thanks for the help, finally got it started and believe it or not, it was the dis pickup ring on the back of the driver side camshaft sprocket. it fell off and was just sitting back there, picked one up at a local junk yard for $10. and it started right up. but I have a few more questions, does any one know where the temp gauge normally sits on this car, after it warms up it is at about half way and I don't think it is supossed to rise that high at normal operating temperature, already bleed the air from the cooling system, but the electrical radiator fans are not coming on. My guess is that the fans went out and it over heated my friend kept on driving not noticing and the water pump melted and then warped the head, bam one bad day heh

I think it's right behind the thermostat housing if I'm not mistaken.

OK once again thanks for all you help, got the car to stop over heating, but now it is returning code 51=Lean air/fuel mixture has been indicated by an abnormally rich correction factor. when I accelerated the car the rpms drop and the car jerks the harder you acelerate the worse it gets, there like spudders and ocasionally the cruise control light flashes on when it spudders. any ideas?

Is the fuel rail leaking?
What did you do to get it to stop overheating?
I know this is a stupid question, but are you sure you connected all the hoses and air intakes to the throttle bodies and plenum?
Can't think of anything else right now.

I replaced the fuse for the fans and it stoped overheating, as for the fuel rail I put in all new o rings when I was putting it back together, so no leaks and all of the vacum lines have been replaced unless I may have missed a hard to see one. I'll have to check in a little while, but good thoughts
