91 Lumina Van wont start

It has spark, gas is getting to the fuel filter (replaced that) but when i watch the fuel injector there is no gas coming down when we try to turn the engine over. Just keeps cranking, the fuses all seem good under the dash any help here?

I am assuming you have a throttle body fuel injection since you say you watch the fuel injector

Can you by any chance hear the fuel injectors operating, sometimes you can hear them click. if you can I would think it is fuel related. If you can get a noid light for your vehicle you can unplug the injector and plug the noid light in. and crank your engine if the light flashes and no fuel is coming out that is another good sign of no fuel to the injector. You can also use a DIGITAL voltmeter (an analog voltmeter can fry your computer). You should get 12 volts to your fuel injector, there will not be a ground through the plug becuase the computer grounds the injector to get it to fire, so you will have to use a different ground. The noid light will tell you if the computer is grounding the injector or not. if you get fuel to the fuel filter then I would see if you are getting fuel to your throttle body. if you get fuel to your throttle body, the injectors get a pulse but no spray I would take apart the throttle body and try to clean it out, maybe there is a clog, rebuild kits are inexpensive and not that hard. If you have 1 injector you may have a bad injector but if you have two wich I am thinking you do then I doubt they would both be bad

Re: 91 Lumina Van wont start

i had the same problem. my 95 would run fine one min and die or sputter and die. i found that the tbody injector were only putting out on one of them i switched the electricks on the injectors and the other one worked and the one that was working quit. i also had a broken wire on the oil pressure switch about 1 in. above the connector inside the insulation. really hard to find. if you have 3 wires on the oil sending unit short out the 2 wires across from each other with a paper clip and listen for the fuel pump to come on weather the key is on or not. that's why you can't just short it out and leave it. wiggel the wires. i also had to replace my ecm.

Need more info.

How did this problem start?

If your fuel pump is weak you won't have enough pressure for the injectors. Did you check fuel pressure at the fuel rail. There's usually a test valve on the injector fuel rail. Take of the cap and it looks knda like a bicycle tire valve. Fuel injection needs higher presures to run properly. if you don't have a gauge to hook to it, then at least turn on the key, let the pump pressurize for a few seconds, then go press in on the valve stem. If gas comes spraying out real good, then at least you know you have good fuel pressure to the injectors, but they're not being activated for another reason. If your oil pressure switch is bad, you it will cut out the fuel pump. The switch (on the back side of the engine block) can be temporarily bypassed at the connector to check it.

The ECM controls the injectors, but won't turn them on if you have some other ignition problems (crank sensor, Ignition Module, ECM). You need to check first if your car will run when you put gas or starting fluid into the the throtte body. Also check to see if you even have spark- if not , then the ignition isn't working, so the injectors won't fire.

Check the basics to narrow your problem area down. Remember an engine needs air, fuel, and spark to run. No spark on newer cars will stop the fuel injectors.
