PROM Update?

I was reading a TSB (86-6-GAS-66) and it was talking about a need for a new PROM. I was wondering if anyone happens to have the part number and/or a good place to get one for a reasonable price? Thanks!

You don't buy a prom for that...you get a custom tune. Either they erase your current PROM or you run a piggyback adaptor with a flashable chip on it and the custom tune is burned to it or the old chip.

GM charges about $50-$75 for a stock memcal/calpack for the 165 ECM cars, ask your dealer.

Re: PROM Update?

Post your year make and model and engine and trans and your current prom ID and first 10 digets of vin.
Or have your dealer check it for a updated prom.
I think they have got a machine for updated proms.
What makes you think you need a new prom besides the tsb?

What makes me think I need the update is the fact that my car has the symptoms listed in the TSB and I have been replacing parts and looking for a solution to the problem and then I came across the TSB and thought it may be worth a shot. If I buy a new 1227165 ECM from GM would it include the updated PROM? Thanks

Re: PROM Update?

DK05
The prom/chip does not come with a pcm.
It has to be orded seperate/ They range from 50-75$
If you can get your current prom ID a 4 digit no read with a scanner and post back prom ID
A long with the year make and model and engine sise and trans I can check it for a updated prom.

I could but I do not have the car here at the moment. Do you know the part number for the PROM for an 85 IROC 5.0 TPI w/ 700R4 so I can just order it? I am 99% sure that the previous owner did not get the update and I think it would be worth a try. Otherwise I could get the PROM ID in a week or so. Thanks.

Re: PROM Update?

All of the info on updates and prom no I have I have to have the old prom ID or scanner 4 digit ID to tell anything.
Try taking your vin no and the pcm no to your dealer and he should be able to get the correct prom or updated prom for it.
If not post back prom ID from scanner and I will check it for you.
