great progress, did you ever think about having a tinted visor for your senna figurine, or since it was raining during the '84 Monaco GP, are you using the clear visor for realism. just my but to me the face on the figurine doesnt really look very realistic. Dont get me wrong you did a great job detailing the helmet/face but the eyes and nose just dont look right.

Hold on, I need to go find my jaw, it seems to have dropped under the desk and I can hear it rolling around under there...

As usual, great work Guy. making me want to unpack the Lotus and get back at the contest project.... thanks for the inspiration! your progress is an invaluable guide to working with multi-media and should be place in the how-to section when your finished! keep it up.

Absolutely. It's the 1984 Monaco car and the clear visor was clearly used there. Too bad for the face, can't hide it with a tinted visor. But I added a lot of extra detail to the helmet now (it was a bit "bald") to draw away the attention from the face, and I'll try to highlight some face parts with oil paints later on. Also you musn't forget that the face in the pics is about 3 times as large as in real life, so it isn't that bad after all. Pics later this weekend.

New update :

The front suspension was spraypainted and fitted. The brake lines were added and the monocoque part which isn't hidden by the cowling was covered with CF-decal.

The Senna helmet was redone. I removed the visor and I added the black rubber seals which separate the visor from the helmet. I also added a metal ring to the left side and a radio connection at the right side (which wasn't connected at the Monaco GP by the way) and here and there I added some bolts.

The black box was fitted after which I put the rear wing(s) in place. I also connected the extra support cables that I made earlier to the "front" rear wing.

I made pics with and without the wheels and the sidepods, although I still have a lot of work to do. Next on the schedule are the shoulder parts of the safetly belts...

Here you can see a few progress pics :

Until the next update!

PS : you can have a look at the complete picture building report here (as always) :

What's the go with all this progress? I thought you were throwing it in the trash can
The car is coming along well and looks really good. I can't wait to see it finished. I was, however, wondering what you used for the wing supports (that attach to the engine?). Did you use wire, thin needles, or something else?

It's wire (I think about 0,3 mm), cut and bended in the right shape.

As promised, I finished the seat belts. I fitted the buckles and the wider protection parts with "Sabelt"-logos.

I also added the protection mesh at the sidepod entries, as you can see at the following pics.

So what's left to do?

The rear wings still need their "gurney-flaps".
The turbo-inlet still needs a protection mesh.
The safety device to cut the engine still needs to be fitted.
The fasteners still need to be fitted to the sidepods.
The central wheels nuts have to be fitted to the rims.
I still need to spraypaint, decal and fit the rear mirrors.

Next I'll have to organize an outside photoshoot. And then I should have a completed model! So I'm pretty confident that I'll finish it this year, unless a unforseen catastrophy should occur...

Until the next update!

Well, after more than 2 months and 300 hours of modeling, I finally finished the Toleman.

Pics of the completed model are here :
