mirrors yay

this may seem like a lame question but i just wanted to make sure. Okay, the local junkyards have 240sx's but none with manual mirrors, which is what my car came with ( and i need new mirrors). my question is could i install the power mirrors into my 90' coupe? I'm not worried about hooking them up as much as are they going to fit the same as my old mirrors? Thanks guys.

Also, i know i have gay hoodscoops and someone said to use a heatgun to get them off? Whats that gonna do to my hood? just bubble up the paint or make a biiiiiiig mess?

Re: mirrors yay

as for the mirrors, you can install auto or manual, they'll both work but you can't control them without the motor..

about the hood scoops, hold the heat gun underneath the hood (engine side) and heat it from there. that way you won't run the risk of melting the paint as much.. as you heat the hood, keep trying to pull the scoops off gently so that you don't peel the paint off with the glue.. when the scoops are off, you can use some 900 to rub it off, but when you've got all the glue off, make sure you clean your hood cause 900 isn't great for paint. use a light degreaser and hot water (let the degreaser soak).. then rinse it and dry it.. after that a layer of paint sealant wouldn't hurt..

you dont have to do all the extra shit.. its not a big deal, thats just the way i'd do it. you'd get a very good final product.

add: be very patient with the hood scoops, and be gentle. you don't want to take any paint off your hood

Re: mirrors yay

i wouldnt sand it with 900. If anything i would wet sand it with 2000. It may take a while but that way it wont scracth the paint(this is only if the glue comes off without peeling off the clear with it!!!). It will just make the clear coat dull...then buff it or wax the hood. You'll have a very very very nice shiny smooth part on your hood lol. But yea just becareful with the heat gun. Dont hold it directly to the car, keep it a couple inches back and keep the gun moving dont stay in one spot, could also cause a bit of warp if it gets toooo hot. But i doubt that happens. If the glue looks easy to rid off, you could use any type of product that removes tuff sticky substances (goo-gone, zep etc). Or if you have access to air tools, just use an eraser and it comes right off. Then wash the car and wax or polish the hood. THe only down side i can see to taking off these fake scoops is it may leave dark spots on the hood. Depending on how long they have been on, the sun hasnt faded that paint as much as the areas that are in constant sunshing on the hood. You may just want to get a oem carbon or frp fiberglass hood. Or just get the junkyard one and repaint. The selling on ebay isnt a bad idea either, someone would prolly buy it. And you would get a little bit of money to fund for a new hood. If you cant really afford a fresh painted hood, then just tell them to spray the top only...let the underside be whatever color lol. May be ghetto, but atleast you dont have scoops.

btw...those arnt backwords either....its kind of like a dual coul hood if you will. Just lets heat escape easier, not a ram air type. But there non functional anyways so it doesnt matter lol.
