Upgrading 1994 90CS non-quattro
Hey, im lookin to give my audi a little more pop, i have 85k on it with a 5 speed manual transmission. I am thinking about putting some exhaust on it, because my EGR valve is messed up so i have a constant clickin noise. So i decided rather than paying 800 dollars to fix the EGr, i will pay 400 to put exhaust on and hopefully you won't be able to hear the click anymore. I also have purchased clear corners and am wondering if anyone could point me in the direction on how to replace the OEM ones, i have attempted but i can't seem to get htem to budge. Thanks for the help Evan,
I am wondering what type of exhaust would be the best for an audi, i want it to sound nice and not like some crappy rice rocket. Should i be lookin at Borla or magna flow? |

Evan, Welcome to AF. if the "click" is from the EGR, exhaust resonance may cover the noise, but will not actually get rid of it. you could pull the vacuum line from the EGR and see if performance goes up and clicking goes away, but "ENG" light may come and go sporadically. another thing you might think about is using a soda pop can (or beer can) as a EGR block plate: cut the can open, take the EGR off, lay it on the can and draw a template of the mounting surface. cut it out of the aluminum can, drill the holes to mount in between the EGR and the manifold (make sure to silicone it), and EGR is now inactive. as far as exhaust on a CS FWD, I think you have dual mufflers (side-by-side, sitting sideways). these are made by Eberspaecher (who have a web site, think it is spelled eberspacher on the translation), and many show Borla as a direct replacement with only a single muffler(you'll lose about 35-45lbs going to single muffler). before spending the money, you can always take a sawzall (or hacksaw) and right in front of the mufflers cut a 2-3" opening (approximately 1/5-1/3 of pipe diameter)on the pipe, to see a definite throttle response, AND a little noise at wide-open-throttle. if you're swapping mufflers, this incision will be necessary anyway, but if you don't like, you can muffler tape it back up. you might check on audiworld.com, or audiphile, audifan, and audi forum (pretty sure all .com) for specifics on your light questions, and you'll find more exhaust mods there as well. (I'm currently running no mufflers, no cats) with a deep (almost Chevy Z71 dual) note, and not only GREAT acceleration and speed, but went from around 15/18mpg with A/C, in town driving, to almost 25mpg! good luck with whatever you decide. hope this helps, chris nrt racing |
