headlight motor spinning

My passenger side headlight goes up and down properly when the switch is turned on and off however that knob on top of the motor continues spinning whether the light is sp or down. What gives?

Re: headlight motor spinning

What year car? In the 87 & 88 the internal bushings breakdown. The earlier years have a different headlight motor. www.rodneydickman.com sells rebuild kits for those problem motors. For the 87 & 88 the cost is $10 and the first one may take you an hour for the rebuild.
Typical Fiero related headlight problem.

Re: headlight motor spinning

Rodney still has overhaul kits for the 84 Fiero. My three Fieros are the 87 & 88 variety. The 84 kits can be done, but I've had no experience on them.

Re: headlight motor spinning

Its the delrin bushing on the big plastic gear inside the headlight motor. They pretty much turn into sand. I filled in the space with some high strength hot glue, problem solved. I also added a headlight motor bypass switch so I can leave them up when I will be getting in and out of the car a lot.
